Gaja's wines are amongst the most sought after in the Piedmont region, with this Barolo cuvée from one of the appellations best vintages this century, high in the chain. Opulence, richness, and complexity define this wine. Instantly fragrant, combining intense florals and botanicals, think juniper, violets, and dandelion, with a lacing of fresh strawberry. The palate is laden with ripe red cherry, raspberry, strawberry, rosemary, thyme, and anise. The tannins are gently angled, and remarkably counter-balanced by bright acidity and deep concentration. This is a truly heavenly wine, ready to drink, and ready to age into a profoundly complex Barolo wine, a great expression of Nebbiolo enhanced by a touch of Barbera. Truly deserving of the 100 point score.

The 2019 Barolo Conteisa is a noble wine, with angular and drying tannins, as well as more mineral expression. Notes of medicinal herbs, crushed stones, and pure cherry lead to a wine that is more restrained right now but will be fantastic. Through the palate, it has compact but wonderful concentration and a driving structure and is more herbaceous, savory, and mineral than fruity and floral. It is outstanding.
