Gaja's wines are amongst the most sought after in the Piedmont region, with this Barolo cuvée from one of the appellations best vintages this century high in the chain. Opulence, richness, and complexity define this wine. Instantly fragrant, combining intense florals and botanicals, think juniper, violets, and dandelion, with a lacing of fresh strawberry. The palate is laden with ripe red cherry, raspberry, strawberry, rosemary, thyme, and anise. The tannins are gently angled, and remarkably counter-balanced by bright acidity and deep concentration. This is a truly heavenly wine, ready to drink, and ready to age into a profoundly complex Barolo wine, a great expression of Nebbiolo enhanced by a touch of Barbera.

The Gaja 2019 Barolo Conteisa is a smooth operator with forest floor, dried fruit, autumn leaf and pickled plum from Japan with elements of both saltiness and sweetness. Conteisa goes for the high notes with floral tones, violet and something brittle like a laurel leaf. Its texture is very silky and tight. The wine persists with a smooth and long tenor.
