This complex, age-worthy delight is made only from the most exceptional vintages, and described by Gusbourne as an "expression of time and place". 2016 saw a year where the fruit was both intense and rich, but also incredibly structured with fine, balanced acidity. Pronounced minerality, toasted brioche, and heavy orchard fruit mark a symphony of flavour, and an English Sparkling wine capable of serious cellaring.

The 2016 Brut 51º North is the second release of Gusbourne's prestige cuvée. It is a blend of 67% Chardonnay and 33% Pinot Noir, with 67 months on lees. Salty creaminess, with a sense of lichen and salty shortbread, fills the nose. The palate has presence, its brightness bedded in supple, understated creaminess that radiates smoothness, smokiness, elegance and freshness. Everything about this wine is understated and comes with a real foundation that delves into brightness. It is superb, clean-cut, taut and yet so utterly mellow, with the tiniest, finest, most delicious bubbles and much resonance. Dosage is 10 grams per liter. Disgorged: January 2024.
