Dark and intense, the 2021 Rosso di Montalcino smolders up from the glass with a burst of crushed stone, wild herbs, black cherries and exotic spice. This is elegant in feel yet energetic, flooding the palate with masses of mineral-laced red and black fruits. Grippy tannins mount toward the close. The 2021 tapers off with staining length, structured and intense, leaving a pleasantly bitter tinge of licorice and sour citrus. The 2021 is showing beautifully, and while I haven't tasted the Brunello yet, I've already received word that La Potazzine plans to produce a Riserva from this vintage.
