Shafer's TD-9 is Cabernet Sauvignon dominant blend, composed in honour of Shafer's rich agricultural heritage; the name itself is derived from John Shafer's first tractor, and the grapes are selected from various vineyards under Shafer's tutelage. The result is a broad portrayal of their fruit and terroir, designed to be both accessible, and yet unmistakeably Shaferesque in its quality. The wine opens with a bold bouquet reminiscent of the great Bordeaux, but in a fruitier key; the palate is an enduring cornucopia, wherein concentrated blackberries, cedar, flowers, and fresh tobacco flourish on a bed of lush, velvet tannins.

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon TD-9 is a smoking value, and it certainly competes with wines 2-3 times the price. Blackberries, dried flowers, black cherries, and leafy tobacco are just some of the nuances, and it’s medium to full-bodied, has silky tannins, and a layered, impossible to resist style. A blend of 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 11% Malbec, and the rest Petit Verdot, it’s going to evolve for 10-15 years.
